MiniInTheBox and LightInTheBox are as you probably know owned by one company "Lightinthebox Holding". MITB mainly has the small consumer goods like jewellery, watches, phone/tablet accessories, and kitchen attributes. LightInTheBox is the main website which is offering products like shoes, bags, clothes and many dresses. This store was boiling in the Netherlands, and it even had some advertising in the Dutch newspapers. The biggest advantage of this website is that they translated their webshop in numerous different languages. Mini In The Box lost some terrain against the upcoming Chinese webshops. But MITB is still one of the greatest at the moment, with over 4,2 million Facebook users. Their main office is in China, and they have even an office in the United States.
It has been a while since we ordered stuff from MiniInTheBox. MITB was our favourite web shop, before knowing Dealextreme, Gearbest and Banggood. While writing this review, I am looking at the website, and I find it less busy opposed to other sites. You don't see banners everywhere, and the category structure is evident. Yet, maybe there are too many specific subcategories.
Each item we bought arrived without any hassle. Though, unfortunately, we had to pay customs duties a few times. Our last purchased product was about one year ago, maybe MITB has changed something related to their shipment. Compare Imports should buy some products to see if the customer's service, their delivery and the quality of the products have changed. If you are reading several review sites, it looks like MITB and LITB are still receiving positive reviews like before.
Miniinthebox frequently has some site-wide coupons up to 5% or even 10% discount! The overall prices are a little bit higher compared to other Chinese stores, and one annoying point is that you will redirect to LightInTheBox without noticing. Personally, I find it quite irritating that MiniInTheBox directly switches to your native language.
MITB offers like other web shops many payment methods including Paypal, Mastercard and Visa card. Next, to these standard payment methods, they offer also directly money transfer methods like Western Union, IDEAL (Netherlands), Sofort, American Express, Yandex money, Qiwi. After the payment, you directly receive an order confirmation in your email. At MITB you can buy products without register an account.
MiniInTheBox has four shipping methods: Global Postal Service which is carried by the National Postal Service. The Global Post Service will take approximately 10-20 business days. Global Postal Expedited which is carried by EMS and will deliver within 5-8 business days. Global Express Expedited carried by DHL, UPS, FedEx and TNT this will take 3-4 business days. From the local warehouses in North America and Europe, this will be carried by local couriers and will last 3-5 business days.
MITB offers to track the package for a fixed fee ($1-$3) for the Global Postal Service, orders over $60 are advised to use Global Postal Expedited Shipment. This method of shipment will cost around $10-$15 per package. The main disadvantage of choosing this shipping method is that you will probably get extra costs like customs duties and taxes.
Before returning your product you should always contact the customer service to process the return. If you are a European customer, you could return the product to a European warehouse. Likewise, if you are a US customer, you could return it to a warehouse located in the US.
If your arrived order is a DOA (Dead On Arrival), MiniInTheBox will exchange, repair or replace new components within 30 days. They will pay the returning shipping cost.
If the products are operating correctly and they have no quality issues, but you are just not happy with them. You can return those items within 14 days, and the shipping costs are for your costs. It looks like Miniinthebox does not offer any warranty lasting longer than 30 days. Probably because of their “low priced products”.
Miniinthebox does not offer any extra services according to customs duties. It is generally known that premium shippings methods have more chance to be caught by the customs.
MITB does not have a point system but calls it their "Reward & Credit Program". It sounds different but is eventually the same. You will earn discount points for every purchase and with special events. The amount you can gain with a regular order is 1% of the purchase price. You don't have to do anything yourself and will automatically participate in this program after registration. Notice: Rewards have an expiration date of 60 days after the reward amount is posted to your account.
MITB European warehouse & US Warehouse are only offering products from the LED & Lighting categories. They offer LED strings, bulbs, and remote controlled spotlights.
Shopping at the EU warehouse and the US warehouse has an advantage oppose to the free shipping out of China method. You will receive your products pretty quick without paying any customs duties or taxes.
MiniInTheBox got a few special features. Their main selling point is their customer service, which provides native speakers in 27 different languages. That together with their available app in the Play and App store makes them very customer friendly. That is probably one of the reasons why they are one of the bigger stores with over a million products in their stock. And why they are present at the New York Stock Exchange.
MiniInTheBox has a clear website which has high value for people who do not master the English language. Since they offer their website and customer service in 27 different languages.
Although it has been a while since we ordered products on MiniInTheBox, the reviews are still above average if you read other rating sites. They offer mainly “small products”, and together with his big brother LightInTheBox, they offer more than 1 million products. Their prices are a slightly higher comparing to other China online stores. If you are interested in buying on MITB, just go to our coupon page to see if there are some great site-wide coupons.
