The Xiaomi Mi Sports Headset, at the ending of last year Xiaomi announced their new arrival. An in-earbud which fits comfortably while doing outdoor activities. Earphones which are sitting great are rare. We tried them ourselves. How well did they perform when running?

Xiaomi Mi Sports – Unboxing
As we expected from Xiaomi, the unboxing part was a fast procedure. A clean white box with only the headset, a charge cable, and some ear-hats is the result. That are the only things we need, so it is fine. The attached manual is complete in Chinese, but the images are clear for 80% of the functionalities. But, it never became clear how to switch to the next song. The manual is not explanatory enough for that issue. The same problem accounts when pushing the main button for a few seconds. You will hear a Chinese voice, but without understanding the language, it’s entirely unclear what she means.
Xiaomi Mi Sports – Design
How do they look? My first impression was the comparison with the Xiaomi Mi Band One. Bot ear-buds got a small silver box attached to them. We are not aware of the real purpose to make them that big. However, we think that it provides stability and together with the ear-hook a more reliable feature. The design is clean and simple, the fabric feels fine and is comparable with the Mi Band.
Attached to the wire you have a small mic and Bluetooth connection button. Which also figures as the main option button and the pause button. When you are in the gym and want to stop the music? Just hit the button once.
The right earbud got two volume buttons, which are easy reachable while sporting or doing other activities. The other side of the bud got a small mini-USB connection (which hides behind a little flap). When charging the light beside the main button light up, in that manner you can easily see if the battery is charged.
Xiaomi Mi Sports – Specifications
The Xiaomi Mi Sports Earbuds got some main features which make them appealing. It allows you to pair two devices at the same time (because it is compatible with Bluetooth version 4.1.). So, when using it with two separate machines, you do not have to pair whenever switching. Besides, it is water and sweat resistant (IPX4). The large hook and the replaceable ear-tips makes this a useful accessory to reach your proposed goal while listening to your favorite music, and without missing a call.

Xiaomi Mi Sports – Experience
Connecting is easy, just look for the Chinese characters in your Bluetooth connection (when having more Chinese machines on Bluetooth this part is somewhat harder). The Bluetooth distance is around 8-10 meters before getting a crackling noise, which indicates that you are at the edge of the maximum range.
It’s sometimes a bit of a struggle to get the ear-hooks in the right way behind your ears. But when everything sits ok, the earbuds are comfortable. Your ear canal will close very solid through the ear-tips.
When running, they reside without any problem. The microphone is on the right side of your head when wearing the headset. Besides this position, my voice keeps clear for the people I am calling. However, when running, you usually keep the wire behind your neck. Calling is not an option in that situation because the mic is on your back with that method.
The sound quality differs in multiple aspects. The lowest hearable frequency is 80Hz, which is not bad for in-ear headphones. But not good either. When disconnecting the headset, you will notice the background noise. It is not disturbing while listening to music, though it is there when you pause the song. The specifications mention a noise reduction feature. However, we did not notice the noise reduction feature. We think you will only get disconnected from exterior sounds because of the in ear-tips which close your ear canal. This works great, there is always a hat which fits perfect, and other tube passengers did not notice the music at all.
Xiaomi Mi Sports – Conclusion
The price for the Xiaomi Mi Sports is around $30 to $40 dollars, that is not much for a little Bluetooth headset. For that price, you will get a decently designed in-ear phone with some outstanding specifications. The many functions are not that memorable, but the hooks certainly do their job. When you got the ear-tips comfortably on, they will fit tight for the rest of the activity. Walking away from your device is no problem and connecting works great with Bluetooth v4.1. So, Xiaomi did it once again. They provide a decent product for an excellent price to value.
