Rikomagic (RKM) MK902II is the latest/newest release in the Rikomagic mini PC series and is their new media player flagship. LightIntheBox gave us the opportunity to review this media player. With its pre-installed Android software and Kodi you can easily set up your own Media Center. With Google Play you can also install and use your favorite applications like Netflix, Youtube and Spotify.

Rikomagic announced this about the MK902II last year:
“The MK902II runs Android 4.4 KitKat and it’s designed to be plugged into the HDMI port or AV port on a TV, turning it into the smartest TV in the world and ultimate home entertainment center. Watch stunning 1080p HD content both online and offline, watch TV, Video chat on Skype, MSN, QQ. Download new apps, browse the web, create and edit documents, listen to music, read books, and play all those interactive games you love so much on your phone or tablet, ALL in full HD on your TV screen.”  We got excited and were looking forward to review this product after reading this announcement. The MK902II has more RAM memory, a faster GPU processor and of course a faster CPU processor than its predecessors. According to the manufacturer the newest Cortext-A17 is revolutionary and three times faster than the previously used Cortext-A9. For just $144,99 on LightInTheBox you’ll get a premium device which easily turns your TV into a Smart Home Media Center. Buy the 8GB here and the 16GB here

User Review

The RKM MK902II comes with a pre-installed Android 4.4 operating system. Thus setting up the media player was quite easy since Android set up is straight forward. A big plus was that Media Center Kodi (formerly XBMC) was also pre-installed. After turning on the mediaplayer you will get a dashboard menu as home screen. The menu is well organized, slick and user friendly. A great addition is the “My Favorite” folder where you can add and store your favorite apps in one place. Thanks to this straightforward menu you can easily access the chosen application or start the extensive Kodi media player with just a few clicks.

In Kodi Cwe played the well known short cartoon Big Buck Bunny in three different video formats from the internal storage. According to the specifications the MK902II supports; 4K*2K (2160p). The test included 1080p at 60fps and the 4K versions at 30fps and 60fps. The 1080p version played smoothly and flawless as can be seen in the video review below. The 4K version suffered from frame and sound drops, lag and buffering issues which made it unwatchable. It is plausible that the 4K version will work flawless when its H.265 decoded and not H.264.

With the pre-installed apps Wi-Fi Display and eHomeMediacenter you can cast your phone/tablet screen on your TV screen. With this option (Youtube) movies and pictures are displayed on your TV. Another interesting pre-installed app is RKGame control which gives you the ability to use any Android device as a remote or game controller The only condition is they’re on the same Wi-Fi network. The USB extension ports supports the possibility of using a 2.4GHz wireless mouse/keyboard and other peripherals. Due to its 4 USB ports peripherals like external storage and game controllers can be plugged in and used.
