Review: Huawei P6 vs (Preview) Huawei P7

the P6 and P7

In this blog the Huawei P6 is reviewed and compared with the recently released P7. Some criticism on Huawei is that the P7 isn’t innovating enough. The Chinese phone manufacturer did stick with the P6 design, didn’t use state of the art new technology and so on. So lets see…

The Huawei P6 – The thinnest quadcore smartphone with an astonishing look.

The EISA proclaimed the Huawei (Ascend) P6 to be the consumer smartphone of the year 2013. With its slim (6,18 mm) and beautiful design and its impressive performance it is in fact very logical.

  • A lightweight phone which only weights 120 gram
  • A 4,7 inch screen with a 1280 x 720 resolution
  • 1,5 GHz Quad-core processor
  • 2 GB RAM internal

It does look like an ideal smartphone. Already satisfied? Wait there are more features! A front-camera with 5 megapixel (ideal Selfie-phone) and a back-camera with 8 megapixels which can record Full HD video’s! But those aspects are only technical so the next step was to try the Huawei P6 in practice.

First impressions

The looks of the Huawei P6 are exactly like expected and thin! The brushed aluminium frame with a dark back gives the phone the slick “iPhone” look. The “bottom” of the frame has a round shape which feels comfortable in the hand. On the side there is an audio input, Huawei supplied a pin to cover andkeep the audiojack clean. The pin is also used to access the micro sim and micro SD which are nicely concealed. But the pin is a redundant feature of this phone and doesn’t gives your phone a better look. In the pictures below the pin and it function are shown.

The Huawei comes standard with Android 4.2 and interface called Emotion UI. The advantages of the extra interface are the panorama picture feature and face recognition. These features both work smooth and are accurate. The face recognition is activated when a small face rotation (10 degree’s) is detected. Huawei recently started distributing an update to upgrade our phone to Android 4.4 with interface UI 2.0. China has the scoop since Huawei will implement the UI 2.0 firstly in China. It is just a matter of time before an English version will be released.

The Huawei P7

The Huawei P7 is together with the One Plus One (see: Oneplus blog) chosen as the competitor of the iPhone 6. In short: nice design and pretty good features but then 30% cheaper. For me the decision would be quite easy!

The new glass design makes the phone good looking but also a bit vulnerable. So please be smart and buy a case/protector! It is not expensive and will safe you a lot off trouble. Everyone agrees that the screen is a major improvement. It is very sharp, good and bright colors.

Compare

If you look a the picture below the P7 is the bigger brother of the P6. People hoped Huawei would give the P7 a slightly other fresh design. Bluntly said; the only visible change is the screen size.

FIFA 14 Play Test

We quickly played Fifa 14 and where quite impressed. The game looks good and the controls are accurate and have a good response. There was no annoying loading time and we started immediatly. The biggest difference was the framerate of the 7.8 FPS for the P6 and 12.4FPS for the P7.

Conclusion

Overall conclusion the P7 is a bit better, faster and stronger. But we are quite disappointed, in a year time Huawei didn’t improve the phone that much. Although we would chose the P7 due to 4G possibilities and the beautiful screen. Buying the P7 is a reliable decision. For the next 2-4 years you will be settled with your Huawei P7 .
