Looking for an Android 7 and Kodi 17 TV-Box? The H96 Pro Plus from TomTop (also known as the Alfawise H96 Plus Pro) got both pre-installed with the newest versions. We tested and compared the H96 against other famous models (Minix NEO U9-H, MECOOL BB2 Pro, and Tanix T8 Max). Is this truly a good performing box for a stunning price?
Pros and Cons
- 1 * TV BOX
- 1 * Power Adaptor
- 1 * Remote Controller
- 1 * HD Cable
- 1 * User Manual
Why We Like It!
The box itself looks pretty basic. It is really lightweight and a similar size like most TV-boxes (10.8 * 10.8 * 2cm / 4.25 * 4.25 * 0.79 inch). There is no bracket on the box, so installing it behind your tv is not possible. And Placing it out of sight is also not possible because the missing of a RFID sender.
The Box has some regular connection options, like 1x HD 2.0 Out, 2x USB 2.0 (1x Host and 1x OTG), 1x SPDIF, 1x AV and 1x RJ46 LAN Port. Besides it also got one Micro SD slot which can handle a 32GB card.
A tip about extra USB ports: “I just wanted to add that on the DDR4 version, at least mine, there are 2 extra USB ports on the microSD side, they are covered by the case but I cut the case and now I’m able to use these extra ports instead of adding a USB hub as I was planning; btw one is an OTG port (closest to SD port).”
We saw this information on the internet but did not test it ourselves, so we cannot confirm this.

The H96+ has some major apps pre-installed, but overall the system is still clean. This is excellent if you want to start with a fresh sheet and only install the apps you are going to use. Of course, you will find, Youtube, NetFlix, Chrome Browser and XBMC Kodi version 17.1. The latter one is great and a real improvement in comparison with the Kodi 16 version. The app runs sleeker and more firmly.
The installed launcher is pretty basic and unknown. It does what we want, but if you want to change stuff take a look over here .
Android 7.1 Nougat
The box got Android 7.1 Nougat installed, according to the Android specs this version works more efficient with they resources. Read everything about Android 7 .
A small issue we encountered was the screen size, it was too big, and we weren’t able to find the option in the Android Settings (which is the default place). However, after looking further, we discovered that there is also a “Droid Settings” in the app menu. There you will find all options needed for configuring the screen properly.

We did a small Antutu performance test. It scored a fine, Antutu Score: 41843. There are not many tv-boxes which have a much higher score without getting way more expensive. However, there are certainly some boxes within the same price range and with an equal benchmark performance. Below we show some of them and try to highlight the differences.
We searched for some similar boxes with almost the same Antutu Scores. The main difference between the next three boxes and the H96 Plus are the Android versions and ROM size. These only offer 16GB ROM with Android 6.
By far the most expensive one of the comparison. Minix is a famous TV-Box brand which offers great models; the U9-H is one of them. An extra item in their package is the air mouse; all the other boxes just provide a straightforward and basic remote control. While using an air mouse will help you navigate. Next, to that, you will also get a WIFI antenna for a better reach.
But for this price, you don’t get better specs, so this model is a bit overprices in our opinion.

Should You Buy the H96+ Pro?
When reviewing and testing the H96 Plus Pro we were enthusiastic, especially in comparison with our latest review of the Amlogic X96 . The better specs are certainly worth it. If we compare the H96+ with some other main TV-Box models it is equal or better on specs and has the newest software versions.
